Jon Hamm is one of the most iconic actors of all time, jumping from masterpiece to masterpiece and delivering performances that have made him the recipient of numerous major accolades over the years. He has starred in multiple genres on TV and the big screens – his recent project being Landman – over his nearly 3-decade-long career and never once left fans disappointed.
Even then, it seems like the 18-times Emmy-nominated heartthrob has lost out on a major genre — that he notably wants to tackle even at the age of 53 — considering how he hasn’t been cast in it to date: The superhero genre. To say the least, Hamm even became a part of Taylor Sheridan’s series, thinking it would paint him in a superhero role, but only to end up disappointed.
Jon Hamm Thought Landman Was a Superhero Role
Over the years, Jon Hamm has been a part of countless star-studded pieces, and pretty much all his performances have been nothing short of epic. That said, in his ongoing Western drama series Landman, where he brings Monty Miller – the titan of the Texas Oil industry who holds a long personal and professional relationship with Tommy Norris – to life, he is expected to do the same.
But when it comes to Hamm’s own expectations with the saga, it seems like he has been left somewhat disappointed. And, mind you, it wasn’t because of show-writer and runner Taylor Sheridan. Rather, it was because he originally thought of it as a role set in the lanes of the superhero universe, simply since it sounded similar to superhero names like ‘Ant-Man’ and ‘Spider-Man.’
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he confessed the same when asked if he’d ever like to do ‘a Marvel superhero thing.’

Hamm said,
Well, see, the funny thing about ‘Landman’ is that I thought it was a superhero. I thought it was like, ‘Oh, it’s like Spider-Man.’ Like Landman. It’s not. It’s not. Landman, Ant-Man? No.
For the record, this latest addition to Sheridan’s works isn’t even close to anything of a superhero thing. Set deep in the heart of West Texas, it features roughnecks and wildcat billionaires trying to get rich in the oil business as oil rigs begin to dominate the state, with crisis exec Tommy Norris serving as the saga’s lead in his attempt to bring his company to the top during the boom.
That being said, it’s unarguable that The Morning Show star must have been left at least slightly disappointed after finding out the role wasn’t anything of a super-one. Plus, the actor has reportedly been in talks with both the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as the DC Universe for years now, as he himself confessed to The Hollywood Reporter.
And, of course, being the brilliant actor that he is, he hasn’t stepped back from letting known what super role he wants to do either. At the same time, what’s commendable is that, even after all these years, Hamm is still down to play a superhero if given the opportunity. To say the least, he seems to be only waiting for the call for him to finally say I do.
Even at 53, Jon Hamm is Down to Play a Superhero
During the same interview, the 53-year-old actor didn’t hesitate to let his desperation known about wanting to become a part of a superhero universe. Not only did he make it loud and clear that he was down to play any of the super roles offered to him, but he also jokingly hinted that he isn’t growing any young, so recruiters might as well call soon.
Hamm said:
I would love to do that. Are you kidding me? They’re just kind of running out of them, I think. They’re scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point. They’re like, ‘Who do you want to be? The guy that stretches a lot?’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know. Is there anybody whose power is having kind of a bad back? Like, shouldn’t really, like, lifts with his legs?’
To this, Jimmy Fallon pointed out that, even at his age, the Baby Driver star could still manage to pull a superhero role off just perfectly. Replying to him, Hamm’s honest response was, “Well, listen, if anybody’s out there casting… [Fallon: You’d do it, right?] Of course!” That being said, what more needs to be said for casting directors to finally hit Hamm up for a superhero movie?
Landman can currently be streamed on Paramount Plus.
